  • Attack (Sword): Press the Square button to perform sword slashes with Akujiki.
  • Shuriken: Press the Circle button to throw shurikens at distant enemies.
  • Dash/Stealth Dash: Use the R1 button to perform a quick dash. This can be chained for consecutive movements and used to confuse enemies by leaving ghost images.
  • Wall Run: Approach a wall and jump to initiate a wall run, allowing access to higher areas or traversal across gaps.
  • Ninja Magic: Utilize special ninja magic abilities by pressing specific button combinations (refer to in-game tutorial for details).

2.2 Key Gameplay Mechanics

Understanding these core mechanics is crucial for survival and success in Shinobi:

  • Akujiki, the Demon Sword: Hotsuma's primary weapon, Akujiki, is a cursed blade that feeds on the souls of defeated enemies. If Akujiki is not fed regularly by defeating foes, it will begin to drain Hotsuma's life force. Keep the sword satisfied by engaging in combat.
  • Tate System: This advanced combat technique allows Hotsuma to quickly defeat multiple enemies. By rapidly defeating a group of four or more opponents in quick succession, Hotsuma performs a stylish finishing move, instantly vanquishing all frozen enemies and replenishing Akujiki's hunger gauge. Prioritize weaker enemies to build up the Tate chain.
  • Chain Attacks: Link your sword attacks and dashes together to create devastating combos, efficiently clearing hordes of enemies.
  • Ninja Magic: Unleash powerful elemental attacks or defensive maneuvers using your Ninja Magic. These abilities consume a portion of your magic gauge.
  • Environmental Interaction: Utilize wall runs and double jumps to navigate the complex, multi-layered environments of Tokyo, discovering secret areas and alternate paths.
